The main goal of the COMINN project is the development of a new contextual and interactive commercial information paradigm for the retail sector. This new technology will be based on new techniques of adaptive audiovisual distribution, intelligent recommendation of contents, visualization and natural interaction with product, wireless technologies and multi-screen synchronization.
The system proposed in COMINN is formed by different modules that act independently but integrated, allowing to obtain a revolutionary system that offers the user a great added value in their experience during the purchase of products. The system will permit the user to view the catalog of products available through interactive screens. Besides, The displayed products change depending on who is browsing the shop window, thanks to the customization and segmentation of contents. In addition to allowing the user to interact in an easy and intuitive way with the virtual catalog system of the trade, the platform will facilitate the user to perform virtual tests of the advertised content and clothing. The COMINN system will allow the use of the so-called second screen, thanks to its multi screen synchronization system, which shows some specific product directly on the personal devices of the users (tablets, smartphones …) without interfering in the information that the other users Continue to consult.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the inclusion of customer loyalty programs and new payment methods through new technologies such as NFC, which will allow users to have unique discounts directly from their mobile terminals.
Figure 1. Main scenario of the project
The project it seeks to optimize the distribution of multimedia content in a scalable way. In situations of agglomeration of users, as is the case of leisure spaces, it is very difficult to offer services of access to personalized multimedia contents due to the limitations, above all, of the communication channel (eg Wi-Fi). In these environments it is essential to modify the traditional means of content transmission such as web access (HTTP) by a scalable transmission mechanism and independent of the number of users. In addition, user preference information and context information will be used to improve the transfer of multimedia content to a large number of users concentrated in the same space.
With the development of COMINN, the aim is to allow the future users to be able to interact in an innovative way with the shopping centers and shops they visit. This project proposes the use of interfaces accessible to users through commonly used devices such as mobile phones, so that these devices are the key to new and innovative opportunities to discover in these centers. In order to achieve this great objective, minor subobjectives have been defined to help achieve the proposed goal. Not only do we have the possibility to make purchases through the latest technology such as the NFC (Near Field Communication), but also the possibility of managing loyalty portfolios through purchases made and an innovative management model these.
Another important element of this project is the possibility of locating users within these venues, one of the objectives of this location is to be able to offer personalized advertising to users. To achieve this goal the project envisages using several technologies that are able to detect the presence of the user. Once detected, the system will have mechanisms and systems capable of acting in the most convenient way, for example showing the appropriate publicity for each user and circumstance. In order to show advertising videos to the customers of the site, it is necessary to have intelligent storage that facilitates the distribution and publication of the contents in an innovative and efficient way. In addition, the project will not only allow the user to view the personalized content but will allow interaction with the content itself. In this sense, the current solutions are oriented to the distribution of contents in screens located in open spaces, where the interaction with the user, if there is one, is only through the touch screen. The innovation is to interact with the user through the screens that are closest, such as those of their mobile devices: smartphones and tablets, and synchronously to the information displayed in the space in which they Is found and multimedia. Thus, the user will have on his mobile device personalized content, promotion information, extension of data on a specific offer, services related to the purchase or after-sales support, etc. The challenge is the real-time discovery and personalized synchronization of the different active screens in the spaces the user visits, based on storage and synchronization technologies in the cloud. It is intended to equip systems with the characteristics of augmented reality and multisensory and multimodal interfaces, with which the user not only relates through the keyboard, but with gestures, voice, etc.
