The IDEO (Innovative services for Digital Enterprises with ORCA) project is a continuation and evolution of the ORCA project in order to transfer to the industry the achieved results and to enhance the international dissemination. The main result achieved by the ORCA project was an approach to develop methods specifically designed for supporting the early stages of software development. These early stages are essential to guarantee the quality of the final software product. The main goal of IDEO project is the industrial technology transfer and the international dissemination of the methods and tools developed in ORCA, apart from supporting the creation of innovative services for any digital company. Gathered experience through ORCA project provides an excellent starting point for the definition of such innovative strategy and the technology transfer. IDEO project extends the initial purpose of ORCA to the development of complex services that require the current industry. The technology transfer requires an updating and a “final check” of scientific results obtained with ORCA in order to transfer them to real industrial necessities.
The concept of capability is a current trend in which research centres and universities have been working in the last 5 years. Capability is a vital concept that will shape the provision of high quality services for future digital enterprises. IDEO will promote the capability concept as the main basis to ensure the provision of high quality software services. In this way, capabilities will be exploited in dynamic environments where business are highly context-dependent. The main objectives of the IDEO project are: (1) the evolution from software services development to the Capability as a Service (CaaS) paradigm; (2) application of MDE techniques to develop DSLs in industrial environments; (3) guide the evolution of ICT in changing environments; (4) application of modelling techniques to specify the interaction perspective in industrial environments; and (5) introduce a set of mechanisms for software measurement.
With a special emphasis on R&D transfer and on assessing its industrial feasibility, the proposal will be developed and validated through two relevant use cases. The selection of these use cases is driven by the strategical objective of the project: improving the health of citizens and leveraging software development in the Valencian Community. For this reason, we have chosen two real use cases from two enterprises of the Valencian Community whose work has direct impact on citizens. The first use case will be developed on the health area with the collaboration of the Instituto de Médicina Genómica (Imegen: www.imegen.es) and the research foundation of the Hospital Clínico de la Comunidad Valenciana (INCLIVA: www.incliva.es), specifically in the field of genomic information systems (IS) and genetic disease diagnosis. The second use case will be developed on the area of digital services for the electronic valencian government with the collaboration of the enterprise Everis (www.everis.es).
